This is post 3 of 7 in a series called “Back to the Basics.” The big picture of what we as Christians believe can become so common to us that it loses its rightful awe. Join me in refocusing on these fundamental, amazing truths! I believe the Bible is the flawless word of God. It’s a great blessing. Every word is perfect, breathed out by God himself. How amazing it is to have a written book straight from the Creator to read, study, and learn from! As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. {Isaiah 55:9-12} All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. {2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV} The Bible is a great way to get to know God for who he is. It shows us Jesus and details about his life and who he is. Through the many accounts of the lives of both Christians and non-Christians, it shows us the best, most abundant way to live. It also gives us commands that show us how God wants us to conduct ourselves, treat others, and value him.
And through all of this, it doesn’t return void. Ever. God has purposes for the words he’s given us, and his words are alive and active. Studying the Bible and applying its wisdom leads to personal growth, good works that help others, boldness in our faith, closeness to God, and wisdom. So much good comes from reading the Bible! Because of this, I also believe in studying it daily. I have a post HERE that explains some methods I use for studying the Bible and spending time with God. These daily times of study have brought about much growth for me, and I know it will do the same for you! - The next post is about absolute truth- don't miss it!
