Has there ever been enough time or energy in a day? There’s so much to do, rush, rush, rush, forget your exhaustion, if you don’t keep going you’ll fall farther behind. It seems impossible to take a breath; the stress becomes suffocating when we attempt to be still. Even when we find time to sleep, our minds race with regrets from the day and frantic planning for the day that’s coming too quickly. What in the world have we done to ourselves? In the attempt to live good and meaningful lives, we’ve driven ourselves to absolute exhaustion—physical, mental, and most devastatingly, spiritual. When life picks up, our dedication to God often falters. But what if He’s the one thing the rest of it all depends on? Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” {Lamentations 3:22-24} Because of who God is, we are not consumed. He never brushes past us in our weaknesses. So what do we do? We wait for Him. He is our daily portion, everything we need. We choose to stop and wait for Him. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” {Psalm 46:10} Being still before God is such an act of trust. A recognition that while we sit at the kitchen table and talk to Him, He’s got the rest of our world under control. An admittance that it doesn’t depend on us to keep this whole thing running. And ultimately? He will be exalted among the nations. This world is going to end with all nations praising God, standing in awe of who He is, overwhelmed by His majesty. Why not take a break from tedious days to do just that? Be still and know that He is God. He will provide. We will not be consumed.
